Cyclops - The Order of X by NateHallinanArt Cyclops - The Order of X by NateHallinanArt
Scott and his younger brother were both orphans who grew up fending for themselves on the streets. The day Scott's ability manifested he accidentally destroyed several buildings and set fire to half the village. In the chaos of everything Scott lost sight of his brother for he couldn't open his eye without causing more destruction. Xavier, perceiving the trouble, quickly dispatched members from his order to rescue Scott.

Scott has the ability to emit a destructive beam from his eyes. He has learned, for the most part, to live without his sight. He wears a protective blindfold that keeps him from opening his eyes as well as from being easily removed. Needing to cover his eyes all time, people have spread rumors that he is actually a cyclops with a magical destructive eye. False as this may be, he enjoys being called Cyclops; striking fear in his enemies.

(Personal notes) Cyclops was a serious conflict for me. It just didn't seem realistic that they would have the ability to make a functional visor for him in a time period like this. So I thought, what if hes just blind for the most part? Only using his ability for those 'Hail Mary' moments. Jean and Scott could grow close together needing her assistance on and off the battlefield. He could somehow fill the 'blind-wise' leader role.

Check out the character exploration of him here.

I think over all this is my favorite picture of yours , of your order of X.  It makes me want to take your version of characters, and stat them up for the Mutants & Masterminds 3rd ed. RPG. But of course I'd need your permission to do so.

Are you going to give the Brotherhood of Mutants a fantasy makeover as well?

Love the backstory. But, (I hate to be nitpicky) Cyclops' eye beams/optic blasts are not able to melt things/set things aflame. In fact they are beams of complete concussive force that (supposedly) come from another dimension/astral plane that is accessed whenever he opens his eyes. Can't really blame you though, as many outside media sources depict them as being able to light sh*t on fire. Nonetheless, fantastic job!

To add to what you just said about Cyclops's concussive blasts. Those beams he shoots out of his eyes are more like a Jedi force push than anything else. He's basically punching you with the force of a freight train. But the artistic license he took with his mutant abilities is completely justified in the context of his backstory, which I think is a damn good take on the character.

Since the lenses of his glasses are just plain ruby quartz it wouldn't be impossible for them to make something. I'm not exactly sure what time period this is supposed to be set in, but the chinese made sunglasses using smokey quartz as far back as the 12th century, lenses used for magnification are believed to date as far back as ancient egypt, though precisely what form they took and their wearability has likely varied dramatically across times and places.

Obviously they're probably not going to have access to a Chinese sunglasses maker or be aware of the fact that ruby quartz would shield his eyebeams, but they are possibilities. Perhaps somewhere down the road he might get his vision back.

It isn't so much that the idea of a visor is impossible, I'm more in favor that it would make the character distinct from the original. The new depth and chemistry with other characters seems more interesting too. Thank you for the input though, I really appreciate that sort of information.

He isn't planned as of yet. I'm just sticking to the 8 characters I did concepts for. Maybe if a certain company that starts with an M becomes interested...
