The Mole by NateHallinanArt The Mole by NateHallinanArt
Prints Available Here!

The danger from below… The mole beast lurks deep in the piles of waste. It waits for the scavenging and unsuspecting.

This was pretty fun! I had a hard time narrowing down what kind of animal I wanted to mimic, but I eventually decided to go with the mole (though it looks a little insect/wormish too). I thought it would be fun if he used a hand drill to burrow through the ground and use spades (hand-shovels) for its hands like a mole.

Awesome! But why does it have 2 "teeth" in one of the slots? (second from the left). Anyways, really cool!

The asymmetric design of the two teeth in one slot gives this invention that much more of a unique purpose.

Thank you very much! All that I know is that he wrote this, "Wow, this is such a great design. It's a unique concept unlike any of the other creatures in the feature and yet it feels as if it would fit right in to the world. A beautifully executed illustration, I love the old school industrial drill that is used for its head."

one question(i hope you can answer but it's kinda unlikely since you're so popular):
how did you give the drill the sense of speed(i'm pencil artist and i could need an good advice!)??

It's really quite simple. After painting it, I used the smudge tool (photoshop) on just a few spots for motion blur.

yea on PS it's really easy but how am i supposed to do that with pencils?? do you think it works the same? i just smudge it??
in that drill it's easy but how am i going to add the effect maybe to a punch or a shoot or a kick???

This design is very original! Just wonderful how you can make an innocent mole so very...scary. :XD: Yet it also has that...I dunno, cuteness? to it. :D

Also how it looks like a mixture of a mole and insect intrigues me...

Thank you very much. The form of a mole is very interesting. It's cute yet kind of alien. That's cool that it seems kind of cute to you.

I was definitely going for a mixture mole and insect. People in general seem to have an innate fear of insects. So I thought by putting more of an insect influence into it, it would push the scariness more.

Yes, but there sure is something cute there. :3

It's true most people hate or fear insects at some point. I have to admit me too, though I do bear them a lot better than most of my friends... So indeed, that has given it the scary dimension.
