Polyphemus Gas Giant - Avatar by NateHallinanArt Polyphemus Gas Giant - Avatar by NateHallinanArt
Prints Available Here!

Within the thick clouds of the planet Polyphemus; an elusive colossus exists. It is rare to witness the Polyphemus Gas Giant, but it is a site to behold when one is seen in the open. It emits gases from its porous epidermis as a natural camouflage, a literal smokescreen to blend into its habitat. It is a mystery to how large these graceful creatures are. Eyewitnesses have accounted seeing their tails extending kilometers without being able to see the end. It is still unsure to whether these conjectures are true or not.

What is known is that the creatures have a natural bioluminescence much like the animals found on Pandora. The Polyfemus Gas Giant uses its bioluminescent tongues to attract swarms of its microbial food. It is speculated that this species may have a distant relation to the animals found on Pandora due to its bioluminescence and its seemingly hexapod like appendages.

"Yep, I'm a nerd."

CGHUB had one of their cool little challenges (creature planet) and I thought it would be fun to participate since I haven't yet. It ended up being really fun and I plan on doing more.

The topic: Polyphemus - Gas Giant Polyphemus is a planet, a gas giant the size of Saturn that the moon Pandora from "Avatar" orbits around. The (Gas Giant - creature) lives on Polyphemus. The creature is also called a Gas Giant and is supposed to live on Polyphemus.

Simply genius. It's both realistic and totally surreal. Everybody knows there are no space whales but this one seems so legit :)

looks like its all gas around it so maybe it would be lighter than air so it can swim through clouds.. so then the mystical blue force controls the rest hah

I don't mean to burst your bubble but the only way that thing could be related to creatures on Pandora is through bacteria that would have to be blown off for meteorites. Bacteria are the only thing that could survive the ride through space and probably stay alive on a gas giant floating through the air. And furthermore life would have to evolve on one of the planet first either on Pandora as microscopic organisms floating in the air that somehow survived their way to the gas giant and somehow could survive off of inorganic matter floating in the clouds of the gas giant. Or lifeforms Off the gas giant find a way to Pandora and survived off the inorganic matter their. In less another race genetically engineered life on one of the planets they could only be related to bacteria so they really couldn't share any of the later traits in their evolutionary lineSherlock Holmes

Reminds me of the 2001 Space Odyssey series (can't remember if it was 2061 or 3001) where Clarke describes life as it evolved in the atmosphere of Jupiter, huge gas bags that, when attacked by smaller and swifter predator gasbags, used lightning to fight back, but since they were essentially sentient soap bubbles, the predators could easily dismember them with (only slightly) denser claws and devour their rich hydrocarbon skin.
Well done.
